From 30 May to 3 June 2011, H.E. Prasas Prasasvinitchai, Ambassador of Thailand to the Philippines led high ranking Philippine delegates, composed of Dr. Davinio P. Catbagan, Assistant Secretary of Livestock Department, Ms. Grace J. Cenas, Administrator of the National Dairy Authority, Dr. Manuel Jarmin, Executive Director, Livestock Development Council, Dr. Efren Nuestro, Director, Bureau of Animal Industry, NDA Board members representing Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao, representatives from the academia and media, to visit Thailand.
The familiarization visit aims at enhanced cooperation in dairy industry and exchange of best practices in this area. The delegation visited various dairy projects in Thailand by the government and private sectors: the Royal Chitralada Projects, Dutch Mill Dairy Factory, Nongpho Dairy Co-operatives Ltd., sustainable dairy village in agricultural land reform and Zonta Dairy Village, Farm Chokchai, and the Dairy Farming Promotion Organization of Thailand.
The visit brought about fruitful outcome, particularly the exchange of view and share of best practices and experience in the development of dairy industry between the two countries. For Thailand, its dairy industry has improved the country’s liquid milk sufficiency to 90 percent. To further enhance cooperation, the two countries look forward to engaging in technical cooperation and HRD in dairy industries.
The said visit also signified the effort of promoting bilateral relations in the area of agriculture and livestock, which was part of the successful visit to Thailand on 26 – 27 May 2011 by H.E. Benigno S. Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines.
