PRESS RELEASE ROYAL THAI EMBASSY, MANILA
3rd ASEAN Foundation Day
On 9 August 2010, H.E. Kulkumut Singhara Na Ayudhaya, Ambassador of Thailand to the Republic of the Philippines attended the 43rd founding anniversary of the ASEAN which was celebrated at the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines. Among those invited were the Ambassadors of ASEAN member states namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, and Vietnam. This event commemorated the first signing of the ASEAN declaration on 8 August 2010 affirming the economic growth, cultural development, protection of peace and stability, and peaceful settlement between member states as well as strengthened the three pillars of ASEAN: political and security cooperation, economic cooperation and socio cultural cooperation.
The celebrated activities included (1) ASEAN flag raising (2) opening of the photo exhibit entitled ?Zooming in on Biodiversity: A Photo Exhibit on the Value of Biodiversity? (3) Launching of the ASEAN Charter in Filipino and (4) chorus of the ASEAN Song of Unity.
On this occasion, H.E. Alberto G. Romulo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs delivered the welcoming remarks followed by the presentation of the President of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency Benigno S. Aquino III who was given the honour to launch the ASEAN Charter with the translation in Filipino, reaffirming his cooperation and support to the ASEAN Community. This translation project will bring the Filipino people closer to the ASEAN Community.
In this regard, the Royal Thai Embassy wishes to congratulate to the Philippine government on the success of launching the ASEAN Charter with the Philippine Translation and hope that this project will help enhance the understanding of ASEAN in the Philippine community.
