On 25-28 January 2010, H.E.Mr. Chinnaworn Boonyakiat, Minister of Education of Thailand, paid a visit to the Republic of the Philippines to attend the 45th Southeast Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council Conference and 5th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED) in Cebu. These meetings were to discuss on improvement of educational co operations among the member countries. On this occasion, the Royal Thai Embassy, Manila has welcome H.E. the Minister and his delegation.
During the meeting, the Thai Education Minister delivered the Opening Remarks stressing that climate change lessons are expected to be among those included in the common curriculum for Southeast Asian schools. ASEAN Education Ministers agreed to push for the adoption of a common educational standard for Southeast Asians schools and the inclusion of climate change lessons in a common curriculum.
On 26 January 2010, Mr. Chakorn Suchiva, Charge? de Affairs ad interim of the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila, accompanied the Thai Education Minister to visit various schools in Cebu City such as Lapu Lapu City Central Elementary School, Marie Ernestine School, etc.
The purpose of school visits aimed to share the best practice and conduct a comparative study of the Philippine teaching method in order to adapt it into Thai teaching system and to seek for cooperation on education development bilaterally and regionally, particularly in the areas of teachers development programme through teachers exchange, encouraging students on self researching and learning, and promoting outside classroom activities, etc.
One of the strength of the Philippine educational system is the curriculum being taught in English language and the skill and proficiency in language of Philippine teachers. To further develop human resource, the Ministry of Education of Thailand is undertaking a feasibility programme by hiring Philippine teachers to teach English language in Thai elementary schools for 6 months ? 1 year period.
